Toyota To Bring Back Wagon Bodystyle For Corolla

It's been seven years since we've seen a Toyota Corolla wagon option in the new Toyota lineup here at Smart Toyota Quad Cities At the time, wagons were being phased out in favor of sedans and crossovers, but now the wagon has experienced a bit of a rebirth, as many in the Davenport area are looking for something that's efficient like a sedan, but gives them more storage options than the standard trunk. Toyota has taken notice of this, introducing the Corolla Tourer, set for a 2014 release.

The new Toyota Corolla Tourer is scheduled to be unveiled as a full prototype at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany by 2013, but thanks to some spy photos from Top Speed, we're able to get a preview of what's to come.

The new Toyota wagon was spotted cruising through southern Europe with black matting covering the outside. While we won't be able to see some the finer design points of the Corolla Tourer, which will be called the Toyota Auris aboard, we can still get a general idea of what to expect. The front end of the Tourer is similar to that of the Corolla sedan, but it's raised back end with an arched frame going backwards aims to provide drivers with room to store whatever sort of cargo they might need more efficiently. Of course, lots can change by 2014, and the Corolla Tourer is hardly finished, so we're willing to bet more design changes are in store.

While official engine specs have yet to be released, many speculate that the same 1.8-liter, 132-horsepower, four -cylinder that's underneath the hood of the Corolla sedan will power the new Corolla Tourer wagon.

Once the Frankfurt Motor Show gets closer, we're sure more news will emerge about the exciting new Toyota wagon, which will join other hatchback options like the Toyota Prius and the Toyota Matrix. When that news hits the presses, we'll be sure to inform you here on our blog.
