Toyota Prius Lineup Named Best Green Cars For 2012

We at Smart Toyota of Quad Cities already know how eco-friendly the Toyota Prius is. But what people likely aren't aware of is the fact that the Prius is quickly growing from a single vehicle to a lineup of efficient models, and the people at GreenCarReports are looking to make sure everyone knows it.

How are the planning to do this? Well, they technically already have. More specifically, they recently named the Prius lineup as the "2012 Best Green Car to Buy." As the name indicates, usually the designation is reserved for a single model, but the people at GreenCarReports simply couldn't help themselves this time.

"The Prius is more than just one car this year," said Green Car Reports Editor John Voelcker. "With a new Prius v and the Prius Plug-In Hybrid, it's now a family of vehicles with some of the highest gas mileage on the market today, and the Prius name is likely to help encourage buyers to take the plunge into plug-in vehicles."

While the Prius hybrid's expansion from a single model into a fleet of green cars was a big factor in the decision made by GreenCarReports, we should also note that the impressive fuel economy of the various models in its lineup helped too.

Toyota Prius Family of Cars Fuel Economy At a Glance

-    Third-Generation Toyota Pruis Hybrid: 50 mpg combined (51 city/48 highway)
-    Toyota Prius v: 42 mpg combined (44 mpg city/40 mpg highway)
-    Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid: Expected to deliver 87 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) combined when in electric mode and 49 mpg combined in hybrid mode
-    Toyota Prius C: Expected to deliver more than 50 mpg city

It goes without saying that Toyota has a Prius in mind for just about every driver, and we wouldn't be surprised in the least bit to see more variants of the award-winning hybrid emerge in the future too.
