Toyota Prius and Lexus CT 200h Recalled for Side-curtain Airbag
Toyota recently announced that it will be recalling 482,000 vehicles due to safety issues. The recall includes Prius and Prius Plug-In Hybrids for model years 2010 to 2012 and Lexus CT 200h for 2011 and 2012.
The affected cars are equipped with air-bag inflators that may have a small crack that could grow over time, which could lead to the air bags inflating. And according to Toyota, if a passenger is in the car at the time of such an event, there is an increased risk of injury.
Toyota will be notifying all known owners by mail and will install retention brackets, which would prevent the air bags from entering the vehicle interior, at no cost to customers.
important to note, however, that these airbags were not manufactured by Takata
Corp., the troubled Japanese manufacturer whose faulty airbags have led to tens
of millions of recalls worldwide. Toyota has already recalled close to 4.7
million vehicles in the U.S. that were fitted with Takata airbags.
