Toyota Prius and Lexus CT 200h Recalled for Side-curtain Airbag

Toyota recently announced that it will be recalling 482,000 vehicles due to safety issues. The recall includes Prius and Prius Plug-In Hybrids for model years 2010 to 2012 and Lexus CT 200h for 2011 and 2012.

The affected cars are equipped with air-bag inflators that may have a small crack that could grow over time, which could lead to the air bags inflating. And according to Toyota, if a passenger is in the car at the time of such an event, there is an increased risk of injury.

Toyota will be notifying all known owners by mail and will install retention brackets, which would prevent the air bags from entering the vehicle interior, at no cost to customers.

It is important to note, however, that these airbags were not manufactured by Takata Corp., the troubled Japanese manufacturer whose faulty airbags have led to tens of millions of recalls worldwide. Toyota has already recalled close to 4.7 million vehicles in the U.S. that were fitted with Takata airbags.

2014 Toyota Camry and Avalon Recall
Models effected: 2014 Toyota Camry, 2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid, 2014 Toyota Avalon, and 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid
November 4, 2014

Toyota Motor Sales has decided to voluntarily recall 5,650 Camry, Camry Hybrids, Avalons, and Avalon Hybrids in the United States, due to safety issues. It is possible that the lower arm on the left front suspension was produced with a bolt hole connected to the ball joint.  Toyota has stated that the incorrect placement of the bolt hole could cause the lower arm to detach from the ball joint. This action will cause the operator to lose control of the steering of the vehicle. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Customers who currently have an effected model will be informed via first class post. Customers are advised to return the vehicle to their Toyota dealer to have the issue repaired at no cost.

October 20, 2014

Toyota has issued a recall of 247,000 Toyota Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia, and Tundra vehicles in the United States due to safety issues with airbag deployment. The vehicles mentioned above between the years of 2001-2004 have front passenger inflators that were provided by the Takata Corporation. Toyota has stated that there are certain models that require immediate attention. These areas in the US include southern Florida as well as Hawaii.

Customers who currently have an effected model will be informed via first class post. Owners are being urged to return the effected models to their Toyota dealer who will replace the defective airbag inflator with a new airbag.
